I have a jack input with no phantom power on a recorder, and a mic that needs phantom power and a XLR input

can I run the mic into a phantom power unit and then run a jack out of the unit into the recorder.....I take it this will work ok?...even though it will still end up going into a Jack socket in the recorder

???

I would have posted this in the mic room but its closed

one more thing...

Does an XLR input make better quality than a jack ?

XLR cabled are usually balanced so they catch less interference then standard 1/4" jacks.

Not as long as both are balanced.

Er, no.......... 1/4" TRS jacks (ie, "balanced") have been around for quite some time....!
