Well, I'm not exactly a noob, but I just recieved a mixer second hand.
It's a Mackie CR1604, so about 10 years old, I was running my drum mics through it, everything works except the condensers. I have the phantom power switch on but they just won't pick up, they are brand new mics. Could the phantom power just not work from the age? Could it be the mics? I've tried different cables, and different inputs on the board. It will not pick up.
Give me some advice.

I have a 1604 VLZ Pro. Does the phantom light come on when you have the phantom power on? If you can adjust the back from top and back mount make sure that all the plugs are plugged in. If that doesn't work check fuses. If I remember right their are fuses in their. You can download a manual for it. Try it out and see.

Well I have the old one, and it doesn't have a light for phantom power.
Also I have the XLR10 add on which adds 10 xlr inputs.
I just looked on it and I didn't see a place where I could change a fuse, would it help if i sent you pictures of it?

been awhile since i had one open... so may not remember exactly ... but i dont remember there being any fuse for that... and it's not something you'll want to tackle as a first project... though not all that difficult... there's a filter cap a regulator and then 2 resistors on each channel... when the resitors go they rarely take down the whole thing so that aint likely...

dementedchord might be right about the fuses. I just don't remember. I had mine apart for cleaning DeoxIT and things. To be honest, it was late and I really can't remember either way.

asdfasdf

Thanks guys, well I went the easy route and just bought a 2 xlr phantom power supply, cause all I need to use phantom power for is the overheads, I can just run that through the mixer.
