Hi. I'm just getting into home recording and managed to get a delta 1010 off the internet for a steal. However I need preamps now, as the channels on the delta do not have built in ones. I was looking at an Audiobuddy as a first preamp because it seems to do pretty much everything i want (enough gain and phantom power) and is very cheap. However i have heard about people having issues with the Phantom power and others reporting no problem at all. Some say that it runs a 41.4V and others say it runs at 48V.
Firstly what effect on the sound would running a condenser with phantom power at 41.4V have? And secondly does anyone know what the actual phantom power specs are for the Audio Buddy.
Thanks
J

The Audio Buddy specs at +41.4V phantom. Whether or not that will affect your mic or not is questionable. I'd get the DMP3 if I were you. They can be found used under $100 and are a solid first pre.

I never encountered any problem with the Audio Buddy despite it being off spec.

It's not a bad way to go for a first pre. If you can make decent recordings with the Audio Buddy, then you'll be able to get mileage out of pricier gear. You'll not get full use out of your dynamic mics with any of the cheap mic pres. You need at least the mid priced pres (such as the Grace 101 or the FMR RNP) to get good sonics out of your dynamic mics.
