Phantom Power on M-Audio Profire 610 not working

Hello sexy helper people !

I have an M-Audio Profire 610 interface with a button to turn on Phantom Power but the condenser mic isn't turning on when I plug it in. There's a bit of a signal but even with the gain cranked to the max it doesn't pick up more then a whisper of the guitar or vocals.
I have a condenser mic plugged into the interface through a cable with a mic end and a 1/4 inch phono (guitar amp) end.
There isn't an input on the interface for the regular 3 prong mic cable end so I don't understand why the power isn't getting through.

So in summary -> Condenser mic plugged into interface, light on condenser mic indicating power source not on - mic barely picking up loud sounds.

Also to consider: I tried using a Shure SM58 dynamic mic and I have the same problem of not being able to record unless every wall of the house is rattling from the guitar amp volume. Which sucks because I wanted to record in my apartment but can't because of neighbors.

Thanks for your time !

Phantom power isn't available to a 1/4" cable. You need to use a standard XLR mic cable (XLR on both ends). The jacks on you interface are dual configured. They will take either 1/4" or XLR, but phantom power will only be there with XLR. To work properly phantom power needs three conductors. (Technically it could be done with 1/4" TRS, but I don't think that is ever actually done, because if you plug a standard 1/4" plug (TS) into the jack you'd either short out the phantom power supply, or put 48V somewhere it REALLY doesn't belong, or possibly both. Use a standard mic cord and you will be fine.

I think you need a couple XLR cables. If the problem was phantom power it wouldn't explain
a sm58 not working since it is not phantom powered. What kind of condenser mic is it?
Looks like the 610 has 2 xlr mic inputs right on the front.

Good point Randy.

OP, with the SM58, do you get sound in the headphone out of the 610? Also, forgive me if this seems like a silly/insulting question, but you have turned the gain knob up, right? Not sure what the master volume does on the right, but crank that too.

I think the problem is probably in your cord. The one you have definitely won't provide phantom power, and as Randy says, I'll bet it's the reason your SM58 isn't working either.

Wow I'm an idiot - not dumb enough to not crank up the gain (haha, no offense taken jjjtttggg) but I never noticed that it's possible to plug in XLR into where I was plugging in the 1/4 inch, lol.

Thanks so much for the help guys, I really appreciate your time !
