Decentralized Media Mogul
Hi everyone,

I've uploaded my latest mix to the web at:

.

I'm fairly sure this one's close, but you guys were so helpful with my last song I figured I'd better run it by you.

What...?Are those cocoanuts on the bamboo table Giligan?Interesting rythm section. Not my taste but I dug some of the funky sounds you got. This song will never see a radio...La,la,la...(JK).Good Mix BTW...nice panning job, too.

This song will never see a radio
Maybe not a commercial radio. There's still plenty of college radio stations that haven't been completely commercialized.

I gotta give you five stars just for attempting something as ambitious as this, but I think you pulled it off rather well! My only mix comments would very subjective ones. More vocals in the middle section--hard to hear there in parts. Less of the click or claves or whatever that percussion sound is--just because those things cut through even if mixed way back. Loved the banjo! And those drums!

Overall, I liked what you did--all the changes and textures. You've put a lot of work in and it shows.

Thanks! I've gotten the impression from both of you guys that the percussion is too upfront. I'll play with this and see what I think. Thanks again!

nice!
This is what is so cool about home recording - you can take the time to do ambitious arrangements like this.
Really good job of accomplishing technique of combining multiple instruments to create one part, in a Brian Wilson way. The part at about 1:08 blew me away - awesome!

It sounds like there might be a little banjo flub up at about 3:15.
I think the levels are fine overall, maybe just more vocals. The jingle bells sound fine when I'm in front of the speakers, but from the other room they sounded like the high frequencies are sticking out and could be tamed with eq.

Good work! Have you heard Mr. Bungle's "California"? If not, go get it now!

Thanks! I dipped the high end on the jingle bells, and it sounded better. I heard the same problems you were hearing, but for some reason my solution was to add more reverb. Thanks for your suggestions.

hmm, i was excited by the title of the thread...figured it'd be something i would really like...

but somehow i am just not "getting it".

i will listen some more...

Now that you mention it, it was probably the reverb on the jingle bells that was bugging me. More reverb is never the solution....but still I try it all the time. :)
wes480, I'm guessing you don't know that Pet Sounds was a Beach Boys album. The arrangement to this song is very similar to the sounds of that album.

The first half is fairly Pet Sounds-y, but the second half, I can't think of what it reminds me of. Maybe that's what threw wes480 off.

Maybe the second half was Brian's LSD days!

hey, did you ever hear any of the unreleased Smile album? There are parts of it on the net. Some of it is great and someof it is, well, not so great in comparison with Pet Sounds.

i'm quite familiar with the album. hence why i was excited by the thread title.

but, the song is pretty cool. i do think the second half i wasn't quite expecting. the end is cool though
