Sorry to sully the waters here with a bit of turbulence, but I'm a driven personality... :D

As I said in other forums:

"I want to test the waters here - I want to find out what different people think about advertising your own personal project here on hr.com, whether it be an album or a microphone or a recording service. My motivation in this is to find out what most people think, and why they think so. I'll do a poll, and I'll respect the results, but I'm also interested in what people have to say about it. I'll put it in more than one forum."

when regarding gear, the line between advertising and recommending is very thin. You can really be enthousiastic about equipment without having any relations to it's sales.

About personal stuff: we have the mp3 clinic to post mp3's of music. If you're music or mixing capabilities are that strong, they can be noticed there.

So, you're saying you think people shouldn't advertise their stuff or their services too energetically?

I think everybody must be wise enough to know how far you can go. You can mention your music or services, but you don't have to bother everybody on this board constantly with it.

I really don't mind it too much. I draw the line at posting full-on ads, pop-ups, banners or people having huge pics at the bottom of their posts advertising themselves. However, if someone happens to mention that they have a service and posts a contact email address then that's ok with me.

Yeah, I thought this forum would be the most conservative about advertising. So, I can mention my new CD and post a link to my website at the bottom of every message, is that it?

Can I say, like: "This CD is better than the last one. You'd be a happier person to own a copy of it."?

Can I say, like: "I can master your project for less than most and do it better than them as well."

Enquiring minds are eager to know.

First of all Dolbro, there is a link to the websites allready on the bottom of all of our posts.

And If you have a great deal on mastering, I want to know about it.

a few members have links to thier music in the spot where thier signature is supposed to be, and that doesnt bother me a bit.

The present this site is just fine, dont go screwing it up by changing for the sakes of the few who are allways wining in the feedback forum.

ROFL

'screwing it up'? LOL

I'm in no position to screw up anything. There are a whole lot of people here who know their own minds. This is a poll to get information, not an attempt to change anything.

I would surmise that people are content to put up with it as long as it adheres to the following criteria:

1) it's not offensive, defamatory or make claims which could be considered to be either unrealistic or be false advertising.
2) it's doesn't significantly affect the page load times, especially for those on slower dial-up connections.
3) it isn't overly imposing/obvious - i.e. no large images advertising the wares/services etc
4) it doesn't affect the functioning of the BBS
5) it isn't for large scale commercial ventures (who really should be paying for the privilege).
6) it doesn't advertise products or services which the advertiser cannot provide. i.e. no ' please send cash for $100 to this mail box and we will send you $10000 worth of plugins' type ads.

Any comments on the above?

Yeah , I’m with Alcy3000 on this one.:) Low key, small scale stuff is fine with me.

I’ve mentioned occasionally on this board that I design and build custom monitors and PA systems. I mainly use it to establish that fact that I’m not completely talking out of my ass on the subject. But, if it brings a little business my way to support my habit, that’s cool. I’ve never been overt and I never felt like anyone had any objections.

Like I said, that’s Barefoot Sound loudspeakers systems, San Francisco, CA, http://www……;)

barefoot

I would be cool with that type of ad if you have it in your signature and it's not in huge typeface etc.

e.g
Barefoot

Barefoot Sound Loudspeaker Systems, San Francisco, CA, email: email@barefoot.com

I would say that if it is a member, then I have no problem with it... by member I mean someone who posts at least occasionally...

I'd say the problem I have with it is if it is posted by someone who opened an account just to post their ad and then leaves and doesn't come back...

but then again I usually just ignore stuff like that, so is it really a problem to me? I dunno, but it gives me something to think about.
