performance peaks.

hey all, I run a P4 2 ghz with 768 ramm, using sonar 4 producer's edition... Where abouts should my tracks/cpu start to peak? I can get about 20 or so before it gets dangerous with plugins... I thought I'd be able to get a whole lot more than that... I can be pretty creative with destructive effects, but I'm thinking I may just be doing something wrong... what all can I do to get it to 100% in shape?

I've done - graphics reduction on windows XP(make it look crappy to run better). no stupid background programs or anything. I've changed the buffer to be pretty darn high to keep it stable. I run at 16/48000. It just seems to lag, when I know it should be a pretty fast runner. any thoughts?

do you have dual HDs one for your apps and one for your audio?

also, not that you asked, i'd do 24bit/44.1khz rather than 16bit/48khz. i do 24bit/48khz.

the ad/da I have (tascam 428) doesn't support 24 bit, so it'd be pointless to have the wav's eat up that much more memory. I have an external harddrive that I use to store stuff when i start to get low on space, but otherwise it's all of one.
