Hi folks!

I just had a few minutes to try out the Peluso CEMC6 stereo pair with my Avalon AD2022 preamp. First impression, they are fantastic! They are quiet and sound very accurate, not a colored sound, but that is what I have been aiming for. Although they recorded sound sounds great as is, a little EQ can make a dramatic difference, depending upon the song. I will try to post some samples very soon.

Thank you

Thank you Rick, I look forward to hearing the samples soon.

Ok folks,

I finally got a chance to create a couple samples of the Peluso CEMC6 mics. I used a stereo matched pair going through an Avalon AD2022 preamp, then to my E-MU 1212m sound card on the computer. Here are two samples I did with one mic pointed at the12th fret about 12 inches away, the other pointed at the bridge of the guitar (Taylor 414). I did not use any EQ or effects, just the raw sound of this simple signal chain.

Sounds good man, very rich.

Nice job with the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Great song.

Curse you and your amazing mix and sound! Now I gotta beg and plead with the wife so I can buy a pair!
:D :D :D

Those mics and that pre sound wonderful together. Very clear, accurate, detailed, yet warm and pleasing. Your playing is very good too (that certainly helps).

Well thanks! I was able to do away with the noise problem, and I learned how to work the software for laying down separate tracks. The funny thing is, these mics sound good with vocals also, lol, imagine that. I will put up some vocal and guitar tracks tomorrow if life permits.

this sample took to EQ really well too, a little low end and the low mids were wonderfully rich! great playing, too!

You rock, Rick. Nice playing. Almost any decent mic sounds good through the Avalon. Keep it coming.-Richie

Great Job!

Very Nice Rick, Those samples sound great. I knew those mics were good but through your preamp they sound great on guitar. I can't wait to try mine through the Millennia.

As soon as I have a chance I'll also try to post some samples of solo flute with the CEMC6s and the Millennia.

Cool!

I've been using a pair of CEMC6s as overheads for drums and I love the clarity and detail! I'm particularly amazed at how long you can hear the decay of the cymbals.

Can't wait to get them through a high-end pre. These mics are definitely worth more than twice the price!!! I didn't buy them as a matched pair but they are still nearly identical.

Good job on the Croce! Cheers!

Ok, Here are the same ones recorded using my taylor 85 12-string. One mic was placed above over my right shoulder, the other about 12 inches out from 14th fret. I particularly like this placement method over the others so far:

Hey Rick,

The reverb on that sounds superb. What were you using?

Great playing -- awesome sound! But what's up with the noise?? Is it from the mics? Given your recording chain it should be ultra-quiet.

Rick, that's some beautiful playing. Only problem with the test is that you'd probably sound great through any mic. :D

Letting my imagination run for a moment, it'd be interesting to hear a test like this sometime using comparison tracks done from the same take and approx mic positions with a pair of "reference" mics that many are familiar with, like the SM81, mk012, C4, or even the 603s. Man, that'd be a lot of work...

Tim

Yes, that would be great. I would do that if I had a large variety of mics.

A valid point. I agree.

I am not really sure how to do away with the noise in the recording. There are sooooo many variables in this, one being computer fan noise, but the rest I am not sure about. This Cubasis software, I am not too wild about it really, but I have to experiment with it and do some troubleshooting to find out where it is coming from. The Patchmix software that comes with the sound card has alot of settings and volume controls for different things. The levels for the mix have some noise when I am just sitting there quietly.
