I have heard very good th ings about this pre-amp on this site. However, before purchasing, I am wondering this, what if my budge were between 1k and 2k, what would be yoru choice for a "warm tube" pre amp and (this is important I think) would the extra cost be justified?

If you're looking for a really high-quality tube pre for $2K, I have heard good things about the D.W. Fearn VT-1 -- or a Manley all-tube for $1,500. But I have no experience with either of these babies so my opinion means jack squat zilcho.

The general consensus seems to be that in order to get a real high-quality tube pre, you have to be willing to shell out that kind of money . . . with one notable exception being the Peavey. Frankly, I've heard some well-respected names saying very good things about them.

The Peavey/AMR is an excellent sounding unit with an excellent design and components. Do not hesitate, good buy for the money, way better than a Meek or whatever. Nuff said.

Indeed, the Peavey VMP-2 is the exception to the rule - it is absolutely the best for the money. You'd have to spend quite a bit more to do better.

Ive heard local pros refer to them as a poor mans Pultec. So If I had 2k Three of these would be cool. I dont Have the 2k so Im settling for a Paia, Its Modified and has a Telefunken Tube.

My God!!!....what is this?!?!?

Someone on this website actually has something favorable to say about Peavey. must be snowing in hell.

Where can I find one of these things? Peavey gear is so hard to find online! I managed to finally get myself a pvm520i after about 4 hours of strenuous searching. It is a great kick drum mic. Peavey actually does have a few things out there that are pretty good. But only a few.

tonewoods,

those are some fine sounding mp3s you've got. And some MAJOR gear.
