hello. i'm interested in these units because they seem to be the only affordable preamps that would be conisidered "real" tube preamps. from the reading i've done, it seems like cheap tube pres by art and behringer use a 12AX7 to add small amounts of distortion to a solid state signal...but i'm looking for the real thing. so does anyone have any experience with either of these cheap "real" tube preamps?

Yea. I'd say they're both pretty comparable for a lot of applications.

I'd give the edge to the Bellari for two reasons: 1) ample phantom power for most condensers, and 2) it tends to be somewhat quieter from what I gather.

Keep in mind I have very little experience with that particular Peavey model, so take me with a grain. But apparently, the major knock on the TMP-1 is that it is excessively noisy, and that it doesn't kick out enough phantom power.

Either one would make a GREAT candidate for an upgrade if you like to solder and replace things.

yeah...the phantom power thing is a problem...but to make the decision even harder, i'd buy a 48v phantom power box (so that's not really an issue).

thanks for the reply.
