peavey pv10 usb

im thinking about getting a peavey pv10 usb.
what is your input on it?? good idea/bad idea?

would it allow you to record all the channels simultaneously for say... a drum kit??
 
As far as I know, all of the usb mixers on the market sum all of their inputs to stereo outs. So, you could do a submix of the drums and record to two tracks in stereo. But you would not be able to assign the all of the mixer channels to more than two dedicated outputs.

Some firewire mixers can give more than 2 outputs. The only usb devices that I know of that can do more than two outputs are the Lexicon Omega and some of the Edirol units.

how many channels could i get out of a firewire mixer?

what would be the best wat to hook up a regular mixer to a computer then and record all channels simultaneously?
 
I think some of the Alesis firewire mixers will do at least 8.

As far as your standard mixer goes: Assuming it has either direct outs or insert points on each channel, the most cost effective way to get 8 channels into the computer would be the m-audio Delta 1010lt.
 
The Alesis FW16 can do 16 Tracks at the same time(8 Preamps and 8 Line ins)...It has OK converters (24bit at 48khz) and is probably the only unit in it"s price range that can do it....My Friend has one and he gets pretty good recordings .....

Alesis also has a new unit that can do 24 tracks.....

thanks. im prob going to end up getting the fw 16. i havent heard anything bad about it yet.
how do recordings w/ the delta 44 sound? i was also thinking about that one, but it doesnt have any mic imputs, wouldnt you have to use adapters to go from lo-z to hi-z so they would plug into it?

The PV10 has great pres, but I don't know about a USB version. I know you can't reliably sent 8 audio channels through USB simultaneously (at least not and comply with the USB audio class specs), so it has to be sending the mix rather than individual channels...

I'd tend to point you to a standard PV10 for pres, and couple that with a decent firewire interface. Or just get a FW interface or mixer that has pres built into it.

The Delta 44 is a Good Unit and has very stable drivers, you can"t plug a Mic directly into it so you need a preamp or a Mixer to bring the Mic level up to line level...
