I just took up drums about 2 months ago even though I've been trying to play every time I get a chance for about the last 2 years. (I just bought my first kit 2 months ago)

Anyway I live in an apartment so I can't play them here. I was jamming with a band and that was good practice, but that kinda fell apart and so I haven't even touched them in a month.

I was look at those pearl rubber "disks" that go over all your drums and make them quiet. Has anyone ever used them?

I've been trying to find information on how much quieter the drums will be and if they will allow me to play in my apartment. Pearl's site has almost no info and the MF guy was like "huh"?

If you're wondering what I'm talking about, here's the link:

Could be an inexpensive method to silence a kit for triggering.

Pearl Muffheads

I have used the Pearl Muffle Heads on my drumset, and I like them a lot. They work much better than the rubber disks you are referring to. A lot better of a sound (can still hear the tone, yet very quiet) and the snare still creates a snare sound. These are the same heads that are included with the Pearl Rythmn Traveler. I have also used these heads as a practice tool on a set of marching tenors, and they worked great. Check them out at any music store that carries the Rythmn traveler. The store I went to had all of the heads in stock, and they were pretty cheap. I guess you would still have to find something to do about your cymbals, but this would be a great start.

thanks! I'm going to check them out. The only problem would be that would I then have to change the drum heads back everytime I have a real show?

yeah

Yeah, but it didn't sound like you were playing out very often. I would say the quality of practice you will get will be far worth it. You could always get a drum key for you cordless drill which would make changing the heads much easier.

allright cool. I'm going to look into them. I think with that key for my drill it would be easy.
