So I got my Edirol Fa-101 today and was trying to set up with my new Dell Inspirion 8600 laptop... and my dell only came with a 4 pin firewire so i purchased a nice belkin PCMCIA firewire card with 6 pins... now all my research had lead me to believe that the fa-101 could be bus powered off of a 6pin firewire... but unless i'm totally stupid, i really can't get it to work bus powered... is it only bus powered off a built in 6 pin firewire, and not a pcmcia firewire card? if anyone could shed some light on this i'd appreciate it... if i can't power it off a pcmcia firewire card it is going straight back to musicians friend tomorrow before i leave town.... thanks

PCMCIA is not suitable for providing the juice to bus power the firewire interface. You won't find *any* PCMCIA to firewire interface that can power your soundcard.
You'll just have to use the power supply that came with the soundcard.
Return the interface because all you need to use the 4 pins interface on your laptop is a 4 pins to 6 pins firewire cable. 5 bucks or so.
The two extra pins on a 6 pins interface are only for bus powering. The actual signal goes through the other 4 pins.
