Hello,

I will only have access to a laptop untill this autumn and would of course like to be able to do some recording anyway. The computer is up to the task but where do I stick my PCI soundcard? I don't really feel like buying a USB soundcard for lots of $$ just for a couple of months of use. Is there such a thing as an external PCI docking station or something like there is for HDs etc. or am I screwed until I buy my "real" computer?

Hello,

It really depends on your manaufacturer. Some notebook manufacturers provide only "port replicators" and some will actually provide full "docking stations". The dell latitude docking stations use to have a PCI slot in them.

There are companies who make aftermarket docking stations. If you want to start somewhere, try www.mobilityelectronics.com

I have a Dell inspiron 3800 but no docking station. Too bad the aftermarket docking stations cost as much as a USB soundcard. Maybe I can talk my company into buying one. Perhaps it may seem a bit greedy though, as it's my first day today :)
