Is there a difference between PCB-mounted transformers and regular ones?

if I were to buy a board with a bunch of transformers on it are they difficult to get off?

Usually they aren't too hard to get off, the usual desoldering methods work, maybe with a bit of careful prying.

Desoldering them is easy - use a solder sucker. There are spring loaded kinds as well as the bulb kind (I find the latter quicker to use when I have a zillion parts to desolder).

A lot of factors determine how a transformer sounds, so you really can't say PCB versus wired leads is the only determination.

Wire diameter, number of turns, diameter of the core, material of the core, length of the core, solid or hollow core, are the coils next to each other or interwoven. Are they woven together, or in opposite directions?

The list goes on.
