Anybody else use this combination? How is it most advisable to set the souncard settings? Is the output from any given soundcard compatible with the inputs on the YSM1P's?

Hey !

You got your monitors ! Excellente

I do PC to Yorkville YSMp1's. I don't know much tech. But mine are working great:

I run the left and right outputs from my Edirol UA-5 soundcard box (with 1/4" Mogamis M-O-G-A-M-I. I love to say that name slowly). My Edirol box is unbalanced outs so I have unbalanced cables into the Yorkvilles

into the Yorkville jacks and it all works. The master volume on my soundcard/box/UA-5 that I usually use for the headphones, works for the monitor's volume too.

I followed the dipswitch settings in the manual, for room type. I pushed in/"engaged" the Limiter button, even though they won't be ball shakin loud like pleasure listening.

thats about it. Those things were heavy eh?

good luck

Yes they were heavy.

I was wondering because of the difference between a "?line level?" signal, and an unpowered signal. My soundcard will 'lightly' push speakers. I don't know.

How long have you been using your yorkies???

Hey-

I've had them since April I think.

I'm sorry but I have no clue about soundcards and their output to monitors. I just hooked mine up and 'voila.

My UA-5 specs say
a. nominal output level, Master out: 0 dbu
b. Output impedance, Master out: 1K ohm
Output impedance, Headphone: 50 ohm

maybe you can look at your specs and compare to mine, since with mine they work... that is, while you're waiting for someone who knows what they're talking about to answer you.

remember there's the trim knob at the back of each monitor too. I'm afraid to touch that, but maybe with your soundcard it will be necessary

I have Yorkville YSM1ps and I have an M-Audio Delta 44. It works fine. Great monitors too.

I called Yorkville last night, they said it would be okay. I wasn't prepared for how heavy or large they were! I guess I never payed attention to the specs. Anyway, my desk is too small, so I've had to clear off an alternate table to put them on, which is probably for the best anyway. Of course clearing off the table made another mess, and before I knew it I had everything sitting in the middle of the room, and now it is in need of serious cleaning/dusting/vacuuming/etc.

I've not even had a chance to hear my Yorkvilles yet!

All the sweeter for the wait I suppose!

having to break down and redesign is sometimes a blessing in disguise

I run my sound card outs back to one of my Mackie stereo mixer inputs so I can control the volume through it. Of course I leave all the EQ flat so it's not effected. My control room outs from the mixer go to the Yorkvilles. As a matter of fact I set it up pretty much as Mackie suggests with the 3/4 aux outputs going to the sound card inputs. This setup works perfect for me.

Yeah, and those suckers are heavy. About 50 lbs each.

Agreed about the redesigning. Unfortunately, I don't really have a "dedicated" room for it (let alone a control room!). So I am kinda walking the line between functionality and usability.

About the input trim on the Yorkvilles, anyone else use them in conjunction with a computer and have to turn them up a bit (@the input trim)? I have the limiters on, and granted my recordings are VERY quiet at this point (still wrestling with grasping compression), but I was curious.

BTW, is there any order in which things should be turned on/off to avoid any problems and possibly extend the life of equipment in general and specifically the computer/yorkville connection?

-Thanx-
