First of all i have a mxl condenser mic and alesis io2 as an interface. it used to record my vocals pretty good. i also use cubase 5. but a week ago i said to myself that i want to record something new. i started recording the guitar, the bass and the drums. when i finished them all i started recording vocals. but there was a problem. it did not record anything. the phantom power was on. i tried recording with my dynamic mics and it recorded perfectly. i changed usb cables and xlr cables and still mxl 990 not recording. than i thought probably it got broken and i took it to the store. but it worked fine so i thought that alesis io2 had an issue with the phantom power so i took it to the store too. but in the store my mxl990 and my alesis io2 worked together perfectly. the guy said my usb port probably didn't supply enough power. i changed the ports but still didn't record. and there is also the fact that i recorded my last song like 3 months ago. than i bought an external phantom power supplier because i really have to finish the recording. i plugged my mic to the phantom power than plugged it n to alesis io2 and to my pc. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. there is nothing else that pops up to my mind that im doing wrong. i'm just sure that my pc has a problem or i'm doing something wrong. i also use asio4all. please some one HEEEEELP. i need to finish this song really fast.

the only thing that comes to my mind is that i moved from europe to canada a month ago. im thinking maybe because of the voltage difference but it is probably impossible

also when i said it didnt record, i meant it didnt record my sound. it actually gets a real high amount of hiss

I can't help with your issue, but I would suggest not spamming all over the forums with the same post - it's never a popular move.

Well maybe the problem is that you have the microphone's switched off? Common mistake by people all over the world.

Cheers,
Darren.

Well, you've done the leg work, and fair play for that.

You've pretty much excluded everything except software and the power thing.

Is there any chance this is just a very simple user error that's easily overlooked?
Is the correct channel set in your recording software?

Try different recording software just to eliminate something else. Maybe download reaper or audacity. Both are free to try AFAIK.

And just to clarify, you're using an XLR to XLR cable, right?

Regarding the power thing.. Does the Alesis use a power supply? If so, is it rated for the mains supply wherever you are now?

Also, do you have a dynamic mic, and if so, is it working ok into Alesis XLR input?

first of all thanks for the reply steenamaroo. im gonna answer the questions one by one
-i also used audicity but the same problem.
-i use xlr to xlr and it has to work because it works with my dynamic mics
-alesis gets the power from usb doesnt have a power supply
-i believe there is no channel error
-dynamic mic works with alesis

also yesterday i tried to the mxl990 with my mixer and still not working. how is this posible? it works in the store and doesnt work at my house. both in pc and in mixer it sounds like nothing is plugged to he mxl.

i also want to buy a new condenser mic but imrealy affraid that it wont also work so please help

no one has an idea. i really have to finish a recording.
