I'm using Cubase software on a PC running Windows ME. I can't get my headset to work even outside of Cubase as in listening to a CD. Tried unplugging the speakers and plugging the heaset in there. Faint sound and heavy static. Tried a different headset. Same result. Tried a different set of speakers. Same result. There must be something in the set up in the PC for those unique speakers. Speakers came with the PC, software installed. I've searched through the set up in Windows. Can't find anything. Any ideas?

Whats the soundcard? There should be a headphone jack. Double check the windows mixer by double clicking the speaker icon in the bottom right corner.

Most speakers are pretty vanilla for PC use. With just the speakers attached, do the normal windows sound events (chord, beep, etc) work?

Most speakers are powered, and get a low level input from sound card which is then amplified by speakers. Is there a power supply for speakers and does the light come on when plugged in and turned on?

Solution

Thanks for the help. Contacted the PC supplier (Gateway) via EMail. The sound card has digital output and the speakers are digital. Gateway sent me an EMail with a link to instructions to switch the card from digital to analog. The headsets now work. Thanks again.
