I've been recording for about 10 years now, but using a computer to multi track is brand new to me. I have a Dell laptop with 512mb memory, and a pentium 4 (2.0 ghz). All I need to be able to do is record 2 tracks at a time at most. This is not my main setup, but just for when I travel so I can make demos. I tried to run that Alesis USB board with cubase, and when I tried to monitor the tracks I had already recorded while I recorded a new one there was a horible delay (latency?)

Are there any bundles out there for under $300 that my system will run?

Thanks.

You may want to check the buffer sizes on your Alesis and make sure you are using the correct ASIO drivers in Cubase.

If you're just lookin for an excuse to buy more gear check out the M-audio stuff. I use a fast track pro with my mobile setup no complaints.
