hey,

I am very new to this whole PC recording thing so pls go easy on the n00b.

I have just bought a laptop - 2.6 Gig P4, 60 GIG HD, 512 DDR etc, Win XP ... with a pretty crap soundcard.

I have Cubase SX and want to use it to record my vocals/guitar with my mic.... what is the best way to get good quality results given I have no preamp or decent soundcard and no money for external recorders???

any info would be great :)

That looks like a pretty hi spec laptop.

Best way is to forget your onboard sound and go with an external USB unit like maybe the Tascam US122 or something from M-Audio

That pretty much sums it up. Remember that you do need mic preamps to be able to use any microphones, whether they are integrated in the USB unit (like the US-122) or not (like the M-audio USB Audiophile).
In latter case: add preamps to taste. :D

cheers guys

thanks heaps for ya help .... think I know what to do now.

cheers! :)
