I am the sound engineer for my church and will need to be able to mix at least 16-24 input channels overall. We will be building a new auditorium soon and I will be in charge of developing the new sound system.

What I was wondering is what would be a fairly low cost way of mixing and recording onto the PC (which I will be building as well). Right now in the old auditorium I am using a Mackie 1604VLZ-PRO and just have it hooked up to a tape player to record, but I would prefer to be able to either have a mixing board that integrates with the PC (channel-by-channel) or just have a sound card in the PC that can handle that many input channels.

Hope to hear your ideas soon.

Thanks,
Aaron

I'd get a nice FOH board with direct outs. is there a budgetary constraint????

I'd buy a Midas Venice 320 for the Console. it has Direct Outs on Ch 1-16, 17-24 are stereo inputs or mono mic, but no direct outs and Ch 25-32 have direct outs.

it's a great sounding FOH board for the money. Blows the mackie out the water for it's mic pre's which are world loved and adored and the Venerable Midas EQ.

(Although I am a soundcraft fanatic they dont make anything this good at this price point)

and the grab you a nice 24 input analog interface like a used motu 24i or 24I/O and have fun :)

For a good reasonably priced mixer, check out the Yamaha MG24/14fx http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...g=rec/s=mixers/search/detail/base_pid/630055/ for under $900

Lowest cost for 16 channel PC recording would be a couple of M-Audio Delta1010lt card at $230 apiece.

You can string up to 4 of these together and sync them up via s/pdif. That's 32 tracks of digital recording for under a grand.

For your PC I'd recommend an Asus mobo with your choice of Intel or amd. You should be able to spec up a decent rig incl lcd monitor for under a grand.

With that gear all up, you can be running a 16 channel digital studio for under $2350.

You'll need some monitors as well of course...

I will probably go with a Behringer MX 9000 mixer & MOTU 24i or 24i/o interface on the hardware end. Does anybody have any ideas of what software would work best on a PC w/ WinXP for live effects (EQ/Compressor/Etc) and recording to hard disk.. Thx
