Metal dude
When i am up loading on NWR, i get these gray box pop ups saying that my pc is leaking out my IP address. What is this crap? I have never seen these before. They look like ads. What is a IP address anyways?

Thats just a slimy pop up ad.I've been getting them too on nowhereradio.A "Scratch and Win" pop up hits me 9 out of 10 times I visit Nowhereradio.Contact waldo about it at waldo@nowhereradio.com
He can tell you what the deal is with the pop ups.

Heh, your IP address has to be available to the webserver you're connected to, or it wouldn't be able to send you any data :) It's just an add from one of those sleazy firewall companies most likely.

I'm e-mailing the ad server right now. No pop-ups are supposed to appear on the site, and these are not even appearing in the records, so I'm not even getting paid for them.

Unacceptable.

F'N popups!

I am getting these damm pop ups while being here, not just NWR, what the fuck.
Anybody else having these problems??

everyone has these problems man.. You can invest in a pop up blocker, or they have some free demos out.. Its just an annoyance of internet life, after a while you dont notice them anymore.

I went to NWR yesterday and some piece of shit "scratch Card" popup got into my system. I turned on my computer this morning and after it booted up, the popup was there again. I wasn't even on the internet yet! I just deleted all my cookies and now the crappy fuckspam is gone.

Plenty of Freeware on the net...plus if you download any trial version you can easily search for the crack or serialgenerator.Google will find many sites.Just download and plug in.I use Historykill 2002 and Popnot 2.1 I got em both for free and have unlimited use.I know alot of people frown upon using crack software and all but when the need arises and the fundage ain't there a conflict presents itself.

Try Mozilla... Pop-ups are a thing of the past... no extra pop-up addins necessary

Mozilla's tabbed dialog is about 1000 times better than IE... makes surfing here a lot easier

W.I.S.C.,

I will say this gently this time around, but you should re-edit your post immediately to remove the link to the warez site. Not only in my mind should it get you immediately banned from this site, but you could also cause legal trouble for the site hosting the link, THIS WEBSITE. Please consider editing your post ASAP.

Yeah, W.I.S.C. ... you might not want to be linking to warez. I don't think it's a bannable offense though :)

I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but in my "real" job I happen to run several popular Windows Software/Shareware Sites and I have ohhh, about 70 products being marketed on those sites as well. So, I would appreciate it if that link gets removed as soon as possible. This is illegal. Thanks for understanding.

A link to illegal content is not illegal by any law I've ever been able to dig up.

(not that I'm supporting warez, mind you)

I'm "trying" my best not to be a jerk here and get all rude like. HONEST!!! :)

"A link to illegal content is not illegal by any law I've ever been able to dig up."

To put things in perspective, there has been plenty of sites shut down for linking to illegal items, be it porno pics, pirated software, illegal music files. The above link has the SAME legal ramifications if I posted a link to a Metallica mp3 file. Would that link be removed? I think so.

Just think if someone posted a link to a hardcore sexual image and some minor looks at the link and rapes some girl. Where do you think the kid is going to say he got the image from? Who is going to get sued?

If the above warez link is linked to literally hundreds or thousands of files, then the legal responsibility the webmaster of this site is taking by allowing this link is staggering. When some user from this website clicks on that link the "referall information" is going to come from this site. The digital trail is there.

Content on a webpage be it an unmoderated forum post or links added from 3rd party advertisers is STILL 100% the responsibility of the owners of the domain name.

I think you're taking it too far, even though we agree in principal on at least the warez issue itself.

I've never heard of one single site that's been shut down via legal action for simply linking to content. Case in point: sharereactor.com .... or even google.com!

If something as simple as a link to another website was enough to have an entire site shut down, then this would be a sad sad world.

Now if the actual illegal content were HOSTED on this server, that would be a different story entirely. Or if the link pointed directly to a file for download, then that may be illegal if it violates the policies of the site being linked to. There might also be legal issues if a link connected directly to an illegal file from another site as though the content were on this site. But the link above doesn't really fit into any of these categories.

Otherwise, a link to a website is not illegal. If I say, "hey, you can download warez with kazaa or edonkey", then I haven't broken the law. There's not any difference between that and a link. I can certainly create a link to sharereactor...from which a person could figure out how to download warez. I could also say "do a search for warez on google" and they'd get stuff that's just as "good" as the above link.

And a child isn't going to see a picture and go rape somebody, but I don't think a child should look at pornography of course. Due to internet child protection law, this site has had a "no minors" policy for quite some time...although I think it just limits those under 13 to comply. Yeah you can get to porn from that link, but I can also "get to" porn via a lot of sites. It didn't link directly to a hardcore porn rape hypnosis image :)

I personally think that W.I.S.C. should remove the link...garbage like that belongs in the cave and not this forum for one thing...but since it's sort of non-specific and clearly labeled as Warez, I'm going to give him the option.

dan, I warned you about this! :D lmao!!

Slackmaster 2000,

Actually you are 100% dead wrong. Just because certain sites that link to warez sites are still up that does not mean it is legal. Again, all you have to do is consider if someone put a link to an illegal mp3 site, or even a direct link to an illegal mp3 file would you let that link stay on this site?

I still don't know if you (Slackmaster2000) are a moderator/webmaster for this site, but if you are I'm more than surprised about your attitude about this. Piracy in the music world is crazy with all the illegal song trading, the piracy of samples/loops alone is mind boggling. To have someone able to post a link to a warez site on this forum and not have it removed is dissapointing to say the least. I wonder how the other business minded users who visit this site would think if they saw the link. Right now it's buried in a unrelated subject, but if you posted a subject like "Warez Site" I wouldn't be surprised if you would get ALOT more responses like mine.

Regardless of the legality of the link, there is ethics here. And if HomeRecording.com allows links to Warez in their forums, this is simply not a good thing.
