Hi there guys,

Im thinking about buying a Firepod for home recording, have one question though.

When sending the recording tracks (ie in cubase) back to the firepod for monitoring, can I expect (almost) zero latency?

How does the Firepod monitor the music from Cubase, does it do it via the Firewire In, or do you do it via soundcard out -> Firepod line in.

Thats the only niggle I can think of, the thing looks great othewise!

Thanks!

I believe your Firepod REPLACES your soundcard and your (powered) monitors are hooked up to a Firepod output. Otherwise, the output goes to a monitor amp first; then onward to the monitors.

The Firepod provides zero latency monitoring. The latency could occur on the incoming signal depending on your hardware. Most new computers support a latency setting of .06ms or so (The firepod interface supports an adjustment for latency). The firepod does replace the computer soundcard. It has to otherwise (noise levels and sound quality is only as strong as the weakest link in your signal chain) the quiet clarity captured by the firepod pres would be destroyed by the OEM (probably onboard) soundcard. If you don't currently own a recording/editing suite the Firepod comes with Cubase LE. I use Adobe Audition and a Waves plugin with relative success. Whatever platform you decide on make sure it supports your hardware. Normally you have to redesignate your input and monitor output in whatever software you choose to use. Simply switch the stock soundcard (Default) to the Firepod input/output channel. I'm a strong proponent of this hardware. For the price it just cannot be beat. You WILL love it.
