Master of the Obvious
AMD 2800, 512RAM, MSI k7n2 Delta2 MB, 2 seagate HD, Antec case and 300 watt psu. The case and PSU are probably 4 yrs old. The MB and CPU less than a year.

Last night after working on a mix for a few hours my PC just shut down. It was dead and then I heard a little pop (faint click) and my CD-RW light came on and the CPU fan came on... I hit the start button but nothing. The PSU was pretty hot feeling but the CPU fan was not. I unplugged it, plugged it back in & then nothing worked. Still won't turn on today. Is there a way to know if it's the PSU or CPU w/ out swapping it first?

Something like this happened last summer on a hot day... but I could smell some burning electronics. I thought it was toast but the next day it fired up and has been running ever since. I went back to running it 24/7 over a month ago.

I'm thinking it's the power supply... I do have another PC here w/ a 350 watt PSU and 1.4 AMD CPU that I could check w/ but I'd rather not mess w/ it if I don't have to & just get a new ?part?.

Thanks,
B.

Yep it sounds like the power supply. Don't even bother with less than a 500 watt supply or you will end up toasting that one too. Get the best power supply that you can afford.
