PLEASE!!!!!!! People,
We are all "relatively" adult here. No more judgemental name calling. I am new to the computer recording side of music and I just think it is the most rediculas thing on earth to hear two "grown men" arguing over who has the best toys on the block. When I rode skateboards as a teen-ager, I used to hear guys literally getting into knock down grad outs over who made a better skate board... "Powell Peralta, or Vision." One guy would say, "Man if you are going to ride the big ramps then you HAVE to have a Tony Hawk with Gull Wing Trucks and Slime Ball wheels with Swiss Barrings." Then the other would come back with, yeah but if you ever want to ride street ramps and freestyle, then that huge board will be too heavy to do anything." Blah blah blah blah!!!!!! It made me sick, because these guys took it as a personal insult when someone didn't agree with their choice in board styles.
Now I haven't touched a skateboard in over 10 years, but now I fail to see much diffrence between the MAC-PC arguement. Some people are just into diffrent styles of recording. Some like to ride loose and shakky, risking the big SPLAT!!!!!! While others are more the stick to the safe and tight way. It is no wonder why the "big guns" in studios use MAC. If I was paying $2,000,000 an hour for studio time then I certainly wouldn't want to stop to re-install Windows, when everything collapses. Doesn't mean they are better. Just safer. But since most guys out there got more TIME than anything, let them splat on their face if they want to.

What I propose, and I mean this.... CAN WE PLEASE have a new thread catagory on this site for MAC USERS and one for PC USERS and thent he same COMPUTER RECORDING AND SOUND CARDS room? I am not new to recording by a long shot but I am new to computer based music. And when I wanted to ask simple questions about what I should look for in a PC... I got 15 MAC users literally calling me an idiot for even considering anything other than MAC. I KNOW WHAT A MAC CAN DO. My brother works for the largest internet company in Atlanta GA and the FIRST thing he said to me when I approached him with questions is... Hmmm sounds like you need to go MAC. I truely feel that 3 seperate thread catagories would be the best. One ONLY for MAC. One ONLY for PC, and keep the existing one where we can all PLAY together. It is really childish sometimes.

What do you guys think????

Thanks,
Mike

You might be onto something... I think most users on this board recognize that there are two camps regarding PCs of choice. Because of this sites emphasis on "Home Recording" it is to be expected that there will be a lot of PC users here, because PCs are cheaper and more numerous in the home (small budget) enviornment. I will accept the statement that Macs are more common in professional studios (which I rarely visit) but I really don't care.

I think we can all get along...

Hey while we are at it, why not really divide the camps up? Lets break people down by preferance:

PC vs Mac
Digital vs Analog
Hard disk vs ADAT
Cubase vs Protools (vs everything else)
Lefty vs Righty
Republican vs Democrat (Nader doesn't count)
Foreign vs domestic
Ford vs. GM
Toilet paper hangs on outside of roll vs inside
(and dont forget crumblers vs folders)
Dogs vs Cats
Batman vs Superman

..... help me out people, if we keep this up we could have hundreds of combinations!

Toilet Paper???

I never heard anyone complain about anyone toilet paper configuration preference, or superhero of choice, or domonante handindness. However I have been called an "idiot that did not deserve to live" because I wanted to buy a PC insted of a MAC. Now I am not saying that we should slice up everything and create 200 new catagories. But keeping with the "flexibility is the key" mentality of a PC, I think that it is clear that this website might need to make a very small change. It is just like the constitution of the US. Cakewalk gets it's own catagory but MAC and PC doesn't? That is all I'm saying. I am in no way insulting the creator(s) of this website. I am simply making a suggestion. Hope I am not offending anyone.

Honestly Yours,
Mike

How about just two categories:

1. PC recording and
2. Mac recording.

That way, people can help each other with their own recording issues with a little more focus and without having to wade through threads that have nothing of any value because they don't apply to your kind of set up!

My two cents

actually... check out those wars now... its all converged. There is common ground... consoles and interfaces. A lot of carrds are cross platform, and even more CONCEPTS are cross platform. And why Segregate? We can only learn from each other.

xoxo

ps.. I use only macs.

I think the fact that there are programs like Cubase and hardware like MOTU that run on both platforms brings people together. If all the software and hardware were different and exclusive you could indeed have two web sites. But that would not be as much fun....

As for tilet paper, years ago there was an amusing story about that. Someone wrote in to advise columnist Ann Landers asking whether toilet paper should be hung so the paper was hanging from the inside or the outside of the roll. I don't know what her answer was, but the question generated a huge amount of mail from her readers (enough to make the evening news) with half of the people calling the other half idiots for not knowing the obvious right answer. The Mac vs. PC arguement reminds me of this sometimes....
