PB-32 Patch Bay Question

Hi all. I am having trouble understanding what the PB-32P (only 1/4" phone jack input, front and rear) is used for. Can some one clear this up, and maybe give an example of what they would/do use pb-32 patchbay for?

I read the 388 manual, and it has a section on the PB-32P but it mostly tries to sell it to you.

If you have equipment that you are always accessing the ins/outs of you can bring them up to the patchbay and use short cables to route those ins/outs to wherever you want to send them (as long as the destination is also in the patchbay).
