The Way It Moves
I'm wondering how much a guitar shop pays PRS for their guitars. Where can I find this information? I'm in the market to buy one and want to haggle the price accordingly...

Thanks.

i don't know the answer to that but i do know that you can get a carvin guitar of the same quality for half the price. maybe you could use that.

On typical stuff, list price is double the cost, but on high ticket stuff like high end guitars that goes down considerably. I would guess (I don't sell PRS's) that the dealers are not getting much more than 15-25% off of the list, which is some pretty slim fucking margins, and a hard enough way to make a living already. (There are exceptions to those numbers, always. You wouldn't believe the margins on Monster Cable - that's why so many stores push such a second rate product so hard.)

It depends entirely on where and from who you are buying. Every store or shop has different overhead and works to different margins. They also have different supply and franchise deals which impact on what the final selling price would be. The only solution is to either offer or bater a price. If you really want a good price a trade in or secound hand is the probably the thing to watch out for. A dealer or shop is going to say either yes or no. They know what they need to sell for and if you don't ask you don't get. How hard can it be??

Problem is, no shops around here sell Carvin guitars. I'm not going to order one off the internet if I can't play it.

:S

That ought to be engraved in whatever the digital equivalent is of stone.

I'll literally use anything BUT Monster cable. It's not even the margins, it's their absolutely hellish business practices. They've systematically sued EVERYONE who uses "Monster" in their name, from Monsters, Inc. and Monsters Ball to small-time independent ski instructors. It's sick.

Don't use Monster cables with your PRS -- you'll void the warranty.

But I forget, on which product.

Yeah it is. I was responding to the person talking about them up there ^.

sorry - that's what I get for not reading the whole thread!

OT: I get those Carvin catalogs w/ beautiful guitars....but same as you, I wouldn't buy one w/o playing it.
