So i went into Guitar Center and asked the guy behind the counter hey could you point in the direction of the Art DFS II? Dude behind the counter says man we don't carry them. Why I asked he said cuz there cheap then asked me why would I want such a device. Told him I needed a digital out to connect it to my Tascam and get some "Tube" saturation in the sounds from my Triton and my MPC. So the Guy says hey I got this DBX 386 with a digital out the M.S.R.P. is like $499 but for you Bro I can sell you a demo for like $250. So to make a long story short i bought the thing took it home and it didn't work. I ended back up at Guitar Center with a piece of broken gear that the whole store was raving about. Only to find out hey they don't have anymore of these in the houston area and mine will be shipped UPS Ground from Dallas. So here i sit with a receipt for money blown but no new piece of equipment and no tracking # UPS to track the order. So now I feel like a sucker. My question is; should I kick that guy at the guitar center in the balls next time I see him in the store?

good lesson: don't buy demo's

i worked in a store for 4 months, sold laptops, digital camera's and stuff,
our demo's...tsss ;. some of them didn't work well, some of them fell on the ground, some of them were turned on and stayed on for like three weeks, so they got hotter than a motherfucker

i once bought my Sonor Force 2000 drumkit as a demo;..with a nice reduction, a few years later i found out that they stopped making that type of drumkits....

there's always something with demo's, ..OF COURSE you can get great deals on great working stuff, but i just don't trust it, i'd rather go for a sick deal on ebay....

and the DBX 386 ;.. does anyone really like this machine ? i've never used it, but heard some bad things about it ;.. so i'm curious

and bigwilz,
i'd go see that guitar centre dude AGAIN and tell him you're very upset, HAMMER HIM, say you don't wanna wait too long, if the store is too far away, call him, mail him, annoy him, cause he sold you junk, he's gonna HAVE to take all your bullshit,
if the item doesn't arrive after one week of waiting, callhim, get mad;.. show him they can't fuck around with you More than this;..

my two cents...

sometimes having a big mouth really helps...i'm gonna drive over to the local computerstore and complain that i want my money back for some stuff that works like shit;... its still in warrantee, they gave me a replacement twice, but its just junk;... so we'll see;... i hope i can talk the seller "under the table" like we say here

hang in bro, your gear will be yours soon !

Well look at it this way. When it finally does get to you, you will have a $499 brand new DBX 386 for $250.

I have no idea how the 386 sounds but I did have a DPS II for a little while. It was ok, but not good enough to convince me to keep it...

The same exact thing happended to me at GC in Boston with the 386, it was one of their blowout sales and I got the demo unit for $150, brought it home, didn't work, went back and he gave me a brand new one in the box. I had it for 2 weeks and sold it for way more.

Now Theres an idea if i don't like it maybe someone on ebay or sumthing will take it off my hands :)

The only time I shop at Guitar Center is during their "list" sales. Best deal I ever got was a dbx Quantum for $200. When you powered it up it displayed a "checksum error" and then froze. I brought it home, found the manual on the DBX site, did a hard reset, and it's worked perfectly ever since...

I have the ART DPSII. It's not my main preamp, but has it's uses, especially with the digital ins/outs. The DBX in working condition wouldn't be a whole lot better IMO.

No offense . . .

It's just that I'm not at all sure about the title of this thread.

I mean it SAYS "PATIENTLY waiting."

Yet, from the text of your post, I'm gathering that you're not exactly in the highly-patient mode. :D Nothing wrong with that . . . just that you might want to either consider editing the title of your thread, or perhaps modify the part about kicking the Guitar Center weasle in the Schnutts.

You know, they say patience is a virtue. Someone said that at least.

ROFL at your reply

I got the "new" DBX in today (it came in and looks like another demo no box and the unit has a few small scratches on it but i can live with that) plugged it in at everything on it works except it seems the the channels are out of wack. I mean I have to adjust the digtal output knobs to to differant levels on each side to get the meter readings even I'm wondering if the tubes on the inside are the same but its workin so im only half ticked off now. I may replace the tubes anyway any suggestions?

Seems i was wrong in my assumption come to find out the tube drive knob for channel one doesn't work at all. Guess I will be going up to GC to kick the saleman in the nuts tommorrow

jezus man, if it doesn't work, get a new one !

i mostly buy second hand gear...no...correction...i only got second hand stuff, cause i just can't afford it otherwize....
i look only for great deals, and then when something doesn't work, TOO BAD for me;.. i'll sell it and make some money with it

but if you buy something new and it don't work right: MAKE SURE THEY REPLACE it !!

yesterday i went to the computer store and yes, they gave me my money back, they wanted to give me a new item for the THIRD time, and i said;:
fuck that, i want my money back, that brand is junk !

and so they did...and i think thats your right as a consumer...

hehe... don't we always get what we want in the end ?

Hey Earworm I went into GC today and put on a show (like you said to do) the guys in there said they didn't have anymore of those DBX 386s what could they do to make me happy :)

I ended up not getting a preamp at all because these guys at the GC let me make it out the door with a PAIR of Event TR6 monitors at no extra cost New in the box. :)

I'm done patiently waiting cuase i just hooked up these monitors and they Rawk!

Thanks for the advice now i'm one real happy camper and i'll go with what my first mind and order the Art dfs II online next time I have some extra cash.

I don't think the 386 is very well-liked mic pre to begin with. It's probably for the best.

Sounds like some of my GC episodes.

I bought a Blue Cranberry mic cable there once. The GC price posted above the rack was $29.99. I paid for it and drove all the way home (approx. a 30 min drive on a good day) only to realize they had charged me $39.99.

The drive there and back to return it wasn’t nowhere worth the $10 difference, but heck, I was mad. So I took it back and told the manager what had happened. He scanned the item and said, "$39.99 is the price, it must have been labeled wrong." I was nice and all, but he could tell I wasn’t very appreciative of their mistake. He then turned to the cash register, retrieved my $39.99 + tax and handed it to me. I tried to hand him the mic cable and he said “No, you keep it too. Have a nice day!”

I felt bad for even showing a hint of aggravation, let alone the amount that I did. What else could I do but thank him and go back home?

I sort of got to know him in the weeks to follow and he turned out to be a really nice guy. He’s no longer working there now. I think they sent him to Atlanta, or so I’m told.

Why?

is it everyone at GC is Mr. cool dude? Yeah Bro, no problem bro, sweet bro. Drives me crazy! I but a lot at GC. but.... I deal with only one guy all the time. He does not act like the hippest, coolest guy in the world,or like my best friend as all the others do. I get a real good price from him as I always go to him. If he isnt there,I come back when he is. They are all commisioned sales and act like. Hook up with one person at the store and I think things go smoother. Sales people like return customers. Just my thoughts

No. The manager they replaced the one I mentioned above with was a real jerk. I bought very little from them during the time he was there.
