I've never used a patchbay. I picked up the Fostex 3010 used and realize that I don't really know the best way to hook up. Could anyone send along an idea of how you have yours set up? I don't need to know about normal and half-normal; just how you have yours set up and running to give me a model.

Thanks if you can.

Thetes,
Use the "SEARCH" facility button........enter the word "PATCHBAY" and see what happens.

Peace.......ChrisO: cool:

I don't use mine to connect to mixer inputs ... except for a stereo pair that I use to connect keyboards through ... all the mix inputs go straight into the board from the other room. I haven't had a need to get those to a patchbay first, yet.
The other I/O devices I connected to it are CDRW, analog PC, Tape and a couple of Effects processors that I don't have directly connected to the mixer. ... I also have a send to a listening room that I use during mixdown. That was the band can go in the other room and party, while I mix w/o distraction.
There's no rules when you set up your own bay ... connect the things that make sense. A good way is to notice what you keep plugging in and pulling out during a session. If those connections were at the patchbay, you'll save time and headaches by connecting them there. I'll eventually terminate the mic inputs at the patchbay too ... but I'll wait until I get a dedicated bay for that.
Hope that helps.

All the inputs into my mixer come from the patchbay (channels 1-8 - rear bottom jacks). I have the inputs from my equipment going into the patchbay (channels 1-10 - rear top jacks). Jacks 1-10 are set in the "normalled" position. Which allows me to patch equipment from jacks 9 & 10 front top jacks into any mixer channel (front bottom jacks). I also have my aux sends and rtns patched in as well

That is one way. Like BigKahuna said there are no rules to how you set up your patchbay.

I've got bundled monster cable with the outputs and inputs of the ADAT plugged into the back of the patchbay (1-8). My processors and amps are plugged in similar fashion. Since I switch out mixer channels quite frequently, I don't have a permanent set up with the mixer. Basically the front of the patchbay is not really set up, while the back is set permanently.
