I have 8-inputs into my AW16G and a 2 row 96? point (Carvin) patchbay.
(24 on top row, 24 on bottom row, same on reverse side.)

Into the left side of my patchbay (inputs 1-12 top row) I have connected :
SR16 drum machine-left and right---------(2)
PODxt-left and right----------------------(2/4)
Ensoniq KS-32-left and right--------------(2/6)
ART GOLD MPA-channel 1 and channel 2--(2/8)
#1 Focusrite TrakMaster Pro--------------(1/9)
#2 Focusrite TrakMaster Pro--------------(1/10)
Dual Bay Cassette Unit out/left and right--(2/12)

I have an 8 channel TRS snake 'leaving" the patchbay on lower row on channels 17-24 to the AW16G

Would it be best to keep these above items on the (left) side of the patch bay and separate from the 8 "ins" on the right (going to the AW16G) and patch each one in as needed?
OR?
should I integrate 8 of the above to be "hard-wired" as it were, with the 8 "ins" (going to the AW16G) and then use patch cables to interrupt the "hard-wired" channels when necessary with the other units/channels?

by hardwired, i assume you mean normalled...

if so, yes....i'd just normal everything....then down the road, as you get new gear, you dont have to rewire every time...

you just unnormal or interrupt or whatever you'd like
