For sure, the average active nearfield ain't gonna hack it if that's what you want.

120db for the ears is like a couple bottles of scotch for the liver

(tinnitus is probably one of the worst things you can have, and one of the most untreatable, still, you're only young once i guess )

This is why it's less expensive to buy a nice power amp and nice passive monitors.

Plus...you get what you pay for and this applies to monitors too.

you do realize that 85db is considered to be the "optimal" level for mixing, right?

I said I OCCASIONNALLY mix at high levels.
Most of the time, I mix at about 85-90 dB.
Having lots of headroom is like having some horsepower to spare in your car.
You don't always need it, but it's nice to have it there when you do.
