Hi all,

I'm installing a new 7200rpm 80GB hard drive in my cubase machine, using NTFS.

Is it a good idea to have two partitions - one for applications and one for data (the cubase project/song data I mean) or does it not make a lot of difference?

Thanks!

best way

two drives. one for apps, one for tracks.
no matter how you slice it with partitioning you get whats called "head contention" on one drive.
also , still everything runs through the one drive one channel.
divide and conquer works best under the windows way of doing things.

I agree. Keep your old drive for apps and use the new one for media.

Thanks for the advice guys - unfortunately I'm having a hell of a job installing Xp on this machine. It keeps giving me a "file cannot be copied" error, which I've been looking into. Unfortunately, it seems it could be caused by anything from the ram to the motherboard.

Ho hum.
