Pardon The Expression
Written By Mark Spinner

Hello – I read in the paper today that God went home
He couldn’t stand the pain of hearing his name being used in vain, in vain

Guitar solo

Go fall in love today, you might get high
Please Pardon the expression but life’s just a bitch then you die
Go grab a slice of life, you might get by
Please Pardon the expression but life’s just a bitch then you die

Pardon the expression

Hello – I read in the paper today that God went to war
We couldn’t leave well enough alone
How long will it take before he calls us home, calls us home

Guitar solo

Go fall in love today, you might get high
Please Pardon the expression but life’s just a bitch then you die
Go grab a slice of life, you might get by
Please Pardon the expression but life’s just a bitch then you die

Pardon the expression

The song has an interesting structure.

The mix is disturbing. All I hear of the first verse is guitar and vocal. Everything else kind of disappears. The bits between verses are almost a pleasant relief.

This mix is very dense, and would benefit from serious opening up, and I would start by pushing that guitar back and giving the other instruments room to breathe.

Thanks for taking the time to listen. I notched up the guitars just a bit because I thought they were not out front enough. You are sort of confirming that I should have left them back a bit. I would like to hear what some other people think as well. What was interesting to you about the structure of the song?

I listened to about half it is pretty messy.

First, tune seems to be interesting, like the words are trying to go somewhere, good vocals. Instruments are all jammed up, nothing has space. I think the performance is good, but couldn't really tell.

I suggest, get the instruments sorted out and put into position. Then bring the vocals back in and adjust as needed. I think you have a good song potential here, just needs have some more mixing work done to it.

This recording is a lot harder than people think.

Sounds like it was mixed by a guitarist. It's hard to get out of that frame of mind and pull the guitars back in the mix where they should be.

A revised mix of this would sound great, if you get it right. Some panning and roll of some low end on the rhythm guitar maybe? Make a bit more space for the bass and the kick.

Interesting track though. I enjoyed it. :thumbs up:

Guilty as charges LOL This was a first pass at the mix. That is why it is good to get some other ears to lend a … you know what I mean. I will post up a revised mix soon.

Much better. Now for the tweaks, guitars come down a bit when the vocals (like around 1:22 area) come in, maybe add some high end to the guitars to give them a bit of air. Mix is pretty dark.

I didn't hear anything bad from other points, no rumbles or anything obvious. Others with better ears can help do some finer tweaking.

The silence at the beginning could be cut by a second.
Whatever that instrument is at the beginning could be a bit tighter.

I feel like the vocal is off center and sunk very far back.
The drums sounded really compressed.

The tune itself sounds like something from a modern Deep Purple album. Experimental, cool.
