Panning Q

This is a really general, basic question, so bear with me here.

What would be the "typical" settings for PAN for your typical rock vocals, guitar, lead guitar, bass and drums recording?

For stereo, I panned my lead vocals far-left and far-right, but it seems too loud. For everything else, I didn't take advantage of stereo and left in the middle. What do you suggest?

Obviously, this is mostly opinnion, but what, in general, do you think would give me the best sound?

There are no "typical settings" except having bass/kick panned center.

A good starting though, is to imagine a band plaing on a mini stage in front of you (the soundstage in between your speakers) and place the tracks where imagine the musicians to be.

I liked the blue bear's post on panning in some other thread, Darn can't find it! Like blue bear said in the other post, dont just think left and right, there is also front and back and up and down. adjusting volume levels and frequencies lets you do this.
When you pan extreme left and right, give a little delay in one of the channels, so you can distinguish the left and right and that will take down your volume problem.
