Oh my crap, this is literally the 5th time I've edited this.

So when I play back what I've recorded, it sounds way panned to the left, but on Cool edit its not. What the deal?

Thanks : )

Could you perhaps be just a whisker more specific...?

Are you recording a mono source onto a stereo track? If that's the problem, don't do that. If it's something else, we're going to need more info...

I don't know. I am a noob to recording and cool edit. How can I tell? Also, what else should I look for?

Read the manual all the way through and then go here - www.tweakheadz.com/guide and read as much as you can handle. If you don't have a basic understanding of the process, acquired at your own speed, not much anyone can say will help.

Actually, go to Tweak's first... THEN go through the manual. Tweak's isn't program-specific.

Have you panned anything in your Cool Edit session?

What are you listening to your session through? Speakers or headphones?

I'm defintaley not that muc of a noob. I have done my homework, I just have expeirience.

Nope.

Headphones. Wether there plugged into the computer itself or there running through the firebox, its way to the left. Nothing is coming out of the right speaker at all. When I am using the headphones on anything else, its fine though.

maybe you have an effect who's perameters are balanced that way.
your "mixer" will look like 12 oclock, but not sound like it

But why would it be set like that on any new untouched session?

Sorry to bump this, I'm really bummed I can't figure this out.

It still sounds like you're recording a mono signal to a stereo track. Don't do that.

If you know what you are doing, why don't you know how to tell the difference between a mono track and a stereo one?

When you add a track to record to, did you choose a mono track or a stereo one?

When you zoom in and look at the waveform. Does it look like there is sound on top and just a line on the bottom? That would be a stereo file with stuff recorded only on the left channel.

If that isn't the problem, go through the signal chain in the program and check everything.

In fact, import something off of a CD into the session and see if you can hear it in stereo.

Shit, I meant to put "I don't have experience."

I don't even know how to add a track. When you open a session, it automatically has 4 tracks. How can you tell if it is mono or stereo?

Heres a screen shot https://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c56/xxxjhxxx1234/cooleditpanningissue.jpg

That screenshot's showing stereo tracks. See how each track is divided top and bottom? The upper part's the left channel and the bottom part's the right channel.

How to record mono tracks? Well, see those buttons to the left of each track? Click on the one that says 'Rec' and you'll have three choices: Left Channel, Right Channel, and Stereo. Don't select stereo. Either of the others will give you a mono track.

If you would just READ THE MANUAL all these answers would be obvious to you.

Ok, thank you very much :)

Well If I had a manual they could be obvious ;)

Why don't you have the manual?

It ships with every copy, and is available for earlier versions online.

?????

Ok, so now its not stereo, and but now when I play anything back its all scratchy and fuzzy and weird. I know for a fact its not becasue its clipping/to much gain, and I know its not becasue my computer is to slow. I had the same problem with cubase for 4 weeks.

This is so gay, I've had my stuff for 6-8 weeks, and I still can't record anything. Fuck!

So, are we to assume that you're using a *pirated* copy and you're actually obnoxious enough to ask how to use it?

Get something with a manual, it will make everything much easier.
