gimmi your mic!
hiya all,

I am using Emagic Logic Audio (RPC) on a PC that came with the Roland VM31000Pro studio package to record and mix down my tracks. However, I noticed that panning has NO effect, i.e. I can't put tracks to the left/right side of the stereo output. If I pan from left to right (on a single track or the Output1-2 fader) I only notice that the signal gets weaker.

My recordings basically sound like "mono" recording!! The "Silver Reverb" is one of the few stereo effects that seems to be in stereo (even if put it on a single mono track). Any ideas what might be wrong?? (my RPC soundcard clearly gives me a stereo signal, so that can't be it)

Thanxxx!

dont record your tracks as stereo.

make every track record mono and you'll be alright.

CyanJaguar --thanks for your reply!

this is what I am doing: I am having 20 MONO tracks and a stereo "Output 1-2". If I pan a track sigal to the right or left, it only gets weaker. Am I doing something wrong?

Logic is sending your signals out on Busses 1-8. Those are adjusted on CH13- 20 on the VM3100. Those channels need to hard panned L-R if you want to use them as stereo busses. In your specific setup you need to pan 13 and 14 hard L and R.

Hi TexRoadKill,

excellent -- this solved my problem. Thanks a lot!

Glad I could help. If you want to use the effects on the VM3100 you can assign tracks to the other busses (3-8), add effects and then record the master output of the VM for your final mix.

To record the master output you need to go into the routing options and assign the master buss to one of the digital buss outs. I usually use sends 7/8 for that. Then in Logic setup a stereo track to record input 7/8 and you are all set.
