Ok, this may sound a little cliche, but... Isn't it a bummer to realize you come up with the best ideas when you're feeling down and miserable, and once you get over it and start feeling ok the deep/dark/cool ideas are gone?

Sometimes I find myself writing sad lyrics when I'm feeling awesome, and what do I do? I TEAR THEM APART! Because "it doesn't feel honest enough".

Hmm... Do I need better songwriting techniques, or just therapy? Haha.

Over the years there has been much speculation, discussion and debate over the concept that most of the best art comes from a dark place. No doubt some great musical artists did fine work while trapped in depression, alcohol abuse and drug addiction. Sadly, many of those same artists died at an early age from those same dark forces.......perhaps before they actually created their best work.

As for you.........perhaps you're simply a warped individual who does need therapy:D Or maybe just a songwriting book?

I know what you mean!!..My problem is when im feeling good and write about things that broke my heart or something..I tear it up because it sounds like im a total pus...but at the time the sh*t was real powerfull..to me anyway!!

i write about the powerful experiences i've felt. happy or sad. and sometimes when i'm in a light mood, i remember darker moods and write dark. or when i'm in a dark mood i remember a light mood and write light. just cause you're not feeling it at the moment of the writing doesnt' mean it isn't honest. not if you've actually felt that way before and can remember.

Let time be the judge.
in other words DON'T TEAR THEM UP! Put 'em away & have a squiz a few weeks later or when you have a chord progression taht needs a lyric - then, when it's USEFUL you'll probably get beyond the concern.
