Crew,

What happens (if anything) when one attempts to run Pro Audio 9 & SONAR XL 2.0 on the same PC?

Do they just share DLL files (& the sound card) with no conflicts; & that's it?

Can PA9 be successfully removed afterward with no consequences?

The reason I ask is...I moved to SONAR half way thru my current project (half the tunes on the CD were produced in PA9; & the remaining half in SONAR.) Now it's crunch time; & I wanted to go back to polish up some of the original cuts. I opened up some of the songs produced in (& bounced to .wav from) PA9...in SONAR...& then bounced them again to .wav from SONAR, for comparison.

Believe it or not...they sounded muddier when bounced from SONAR...with all settings identical.

So, I was hoping to reload PA9 on my machine, open up the old .bun files in that app, bounce again to .wav; & give a listen.

Is it worth it?

Has anybody had any experience in this area?

Thanks,

mark4man

I have S2 and S3 on the same machine, bur PA8 was on the other older one.
Probly' not much help.

When SONAR 1 came out, the recommended upgrade install had you leave PA9 on the machine and remove it later once you were satisfied that you could open all your existing projects, etc.

They certainly don't share any DLLs, I would think...

I used PA9 and then upgraded to Sonar 2.2. Both programs are still on the same machine. I've since transferred all my PA9 projects to Sonar and don't use PA9 any more, but they sure didn't seem to mind each other's company while I was using them both.

I suppose I could uninstall PA9 now, as the only part of it I still use is "virtual piano" (a virtual keyboard, not piano sounds) that came with PA9.

I know you can keep previous versions installed while installing new versions. I'm not sure, however, if you can install an old version once a newer version has already been installed. That might cause problems.

Also, PA9 is not officially supported under Win2000 or WinXP, so if you are running on one of those, you may also encounter problems.

Best regards,
Scott

I actually have PA9, Sonar 1.3, 2.2 and now 3.1.1 installed on the same machine. I know it sounds a bit much but I collaberate with different people using different versions and seeing that you can't open newer version files in older versions I need to keep them all.

I actually have them installed on different partitions on the system HD and all routed to their own audio folders on a second drive. This way it keeps everything neat and tidy and you can install older versions this way.
