In the past some of you guys & gals have expressed curiosity about P-90 pickups.

Here are links to the latest two tunes I have posted on Soundclick. All of the guitar tracks are on a P-90 equipped R4 through a Vox AC30CC. These two tunes show how versatile P-90s can be. (And the Vox as well!)

It is true that P-90s are noisy at rest, and there is some work involved in silencing the tracks during non-playing portions to keep the hum out. Other than that the quitars in these two tunes have no signal processing applied aside from reverb in the first tune and delay in the second.

Enjoy!

Ya got some cool tunes there Tommyboy! Twister has a bit of early ZZTop to my ears and the blues backing tracks are really great for it.
The first tune was good too, the drum track was a bit different though-was it the Boss 670?
Are you using 250K pots for the P-90s or 500Ks? And now, how about a picture of the guitar cranking out these tunes..Ehh...;)

Hahaha, thanks, Anfontan. :)

You correctly caught me stealing from the Reverend Billy G. I love that guy.

The first tune is using two different drum tracks - the synthetic kit is from the DR-670 and the acoustic kit is from the Fantom X8.

I dunno about the pots! :o Whatever came in it. ;)

I thought I'd posted a pic of this guitar before - if not, here ya go!

That's one sweet looking sunburst you have there, I just get confused about all of the reissues that have come out. I always see R4s, R7s, R9s on different forums and wondered what reissue was in what year....it's hard to keep track though!

Most R4s (1954 reissue) are goldtops. Occasionally Gibson will do a short run of something else. The R4s are the only historic reissues with P-90s to my knowledge.

I haven't listened to the tracks, but man that's one beautiful Gibby there Zaphod! Is that a Honeyburst finish on it? My LP Classic is finished in honeyburst, its by far my favorite burst on a Gibson. Actually, your guitar looks very close to mine except for the P90s (my classic has open-coil humbuckers on it).

Thanks, Tadpui. It's an Ice Tea burst. Look closely and you can see it's a one-piece top, not bookmatched.

Edit: I can't see your picture.

Ah, yes I see what you mean about the 1-piece. that's pretty damn cool!

As for the pic, I dunno what's up. I see it both in my reply and in your quote block. Hmmm...

Ah, I'm at home now and I can see it. Nice guitar! :) The bursts do look similar.
