Ok. Here is my setup right now.

InstumentInput <-> Mackie 1202VLZPRO <-> Soundblaster Live

Event PS6 Studio Monitors

Now, obviously I can only do 1 track at a time this way. I want to expand on that. Maybe do some recording for live shows. I am also building a home studio, so obviously more tracks at a time would be better. What would you all recommend? How would you improve on this setup? Thanks!

If you are going to continue on the computer route then invest in the best possible soundcard you can with the most in's and out's...

Then I would go for a good audio interface card
go to

m-audio Delta's are in the -400 range
above that
the aardvark Q10 +-800
and MOTU's

it all depends on the money ur willing to spend I guess

Top! Need more opinions! Remember I have the Mackie 1202VLZ PRO, so I don't need pre-amps.

with what you got- you can record 2 simultaneous mono tracks-

I think your two stated goals can lead to different answers.

If you want to record live shows, then what's very important is portability. Laptop...or probably better would be analog recording, someone correct me if i'm wrong on that.

For home studio, you CAN get all kinds of stuff depending on how much $$ you're willing to spend. There is no limit.

I didn't see you mention any microphones which may be the most important part. I'd recommend reading extensively in the microphone forum to learn what mics are used with what cases. Preamps are very important for mics if your mixer doesn't already have one.

good luck...and if there are more specific questions, i'm sure the guys around here are eager to help.
