i need a overview on what to placa on my vocal track to give it a pro sound. EQ, Compression..... what works best

thanks

You have asked a question for which there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Achieving good results first depends on the room, the equipment, the vocalist, the recording levels, etc. From there, you have to listen and use the tools you have to bring out the best in the track. Some tracks may not need EQ or compression. It all depends.

I would recommend reading up on EQ, compression, and basic tracking techniques etc.

Cheers.

There lays a big problem with Vocal tracks, they are probably the hardest to mix of all.

You have to consider how you would EQ vocals, what effects to apply to it, how those effects enhance or take away from it, how much effect, etc. Does it drown in reverb? Does it sound too dry?

Then you have to ask yourself, "how am I going to place this in the mix?" Is it too up front? Not audibable enough?

I think the only answer to that is, "you have to develope an ear for good vocals".

So like the previous post states, there's no absolute answer.

Yeah that is one of my many down sides of mixing. Hard to tell what eq settings to use. Try and get the vocal to sit nicely in the mix with carefull small eq adjustments. The vocal should not sound like it is placed ontop of the mix but more at one with the mix. destructive and constructive eq should probably be used to acheive this.
