Hi there folks:

I play a LP-studio through a Sovtek Mig-60 all-tube head into a Laney 4x12 box.

- I upgraded all tubes to JJ-tesla - slight improvement noticable
- I swapped 2 of the 4 speakers (stereo!) for eminence replacements - change in "voicing" noticable

- I was very happy with the sound - really

- I bought off of e-bay a "$12.00" speaker cable (monster cable) to go from the head to the box ------ wow!!!!!! huge improvement right off the pants!!!!!

the sound is much more relaxed now, much more controlled, I can go way higher volumes at home w/out getting "ear-ringing" from the distortion. Overall I'd say that that the sound is now less compressed ... and we are not talking "nuances", we're talking about off-the-pants improvement!!!!

The cable that I used before was not bad either, w/ Neutrik plugs at both ends and Gotham cable ... it seems that the monster cable (w/ 4 leads) is about twice as thick as my gotham cable

but I would really share this inexpensive but very noticable tip w/ you!

take care
alfred

ps: I am not afiliated in any way w/ this seller (i am sure you can get the cable from other sources as well) - but damn those were the best 12 bucks spent!!!!

I ONLY use Monster cable for connecting my amp to my cab for that very reason.

Check your old cable's connections, resistance while flexing and your amp's output jack for problems.

A simple cable switch will not provide that kind of a noticable difference unless there is a mechanical problem somewhere.

I am glad that your problem has been alleviated, for the time being. However, if the problem is in the amp's output jack, it will be back again with the possibility that it will fail at a critical time.

There are no magic cables.

Who am I? An electronics technician for 37 years.

Fendophile is right on---Monster Cables are a myth perpetrated on the public.
It's all in your head (unless you had a bad, or undersized cable for your current load to begin with).

Like the research groups of sick people that get well taking the placeabo sugar pills... Monster cables will cure some...

yeah, I sold some Klipsch La Scalas (high end loudspeakers) to a designer of theirs a few years ago and he confirmed that it is basically a load of B.S. I've never noticed a difference unless you're running long runs of cable.

I've got $120 Tara Labs 6ft. speaker cable (got it off Ebay for $30). I can't tell the diff between it and the $30 Whirlwind cable. I can hear a huge diff between these and the $9 radio shack craptastic spkr. cables I was using previously.
