Back in the '60s and '70's I know it was common sometimes to overload the console to achieve a more driven sound. Is that only possible to do with analog equipment? It seems like it just isn't possible to get a desirable overdriven sound from digital equipment but I wanted to refer to you guys. Is the equivalent just recording a solid standard signal then turning the gain up in an amp modeling format?

Digital does NOT like clipping. Any "grunge" has to be done at the source (like a guitar amp or whatever) and captured digitally with proper gain.
