Overheads...Not Overhead

Hi guys, I was watching a muse live dvd just now and i noticed that the mics for the cymbals were positioned below the cymbals pointing upward at thhe outer edge f the cymbal instead of "overhead".

Do any of you guys do this? What is the reason for it?

What are the pros and cons?

If it was a live show, seems to me that they just close mic'd everything and that's how they chose to close mic the cymbals, probably to cut down on bleed from the toms, etc....
