All right, I am recording a band right now and we have finished recording the backing tracks. We now are ready to overdubb. We tried to record some vocals yesterday, but it didn't work. We could hear it in the headphones, but the actual channel didn't work. It wouldn't actually record anything. Anybody have any idea what is going on?

Sounds weird, if you recorded the backing tracks, the overdubs are recorded in the same way. Were you in buss-record?

I don't even know what buss mode is. I am doing the recorder but it is not mine. I would ask the owner, but he happens to be halfway round the world!

I'm guessing you are trying to record direct to a track. That's how I do it. If so, to record an overdub you either have to change your input channels or move your original recorded track to a new set of channels (which is very easy). Just push the edit button and jog the wheel to track exchange. Move track and now record on the newly vacated track. If you don't have the manual it can be downloaded from the Fostex site.
