I am currently using a Boss SD-1 to overdrive my amps. My main amp is a "Red Bear". This is a Russian amp imported by Gibson in the 90's. It's all tube (sounds like a cross between a plexi and a JCM 800),hand wired and built like a tank. It gets a nice medium gain distortion, but the style of music I play calls for what I call "mega gain" distortion. So I use the SD-1 mainly to boost the level into the Red Bear at a medium gain setting. This gets me the gain I want, and the Red Bear has tons of bottom end, so the treble boost effect of the SD-1 kind of balances this out and sounds fine.
BUT..... when I use the SD-1 on combos, or really any amp without massive bottom end to compensate, it get's "trebly". Any other options for more gain without the loss in bottom end? Is this something specific to this pedal, or just a side effect of the level boost? I am not looking for a distortion pedal, I am just looking for a way to boost the gain I am already getting minus the increased treble.
Thanks
