Rock Steady
If any of you are into overclocking the Athlon chips, be damn sure your have your alarm and auto shutdown set , in case one of the cooling fans goes out. And that's all I have to say about that.

That sucks... I've had a fan die on my old XP 2400+. Fortunately I was sitting at the computer and the case was off. It never shut down, but all of a sudden the computer started acting up. Reach in, and the fan was toasty. Fortunately no harm done but I can see how it would be easy to nuke a CPU if the fan died and no one was right there to deal with it...

That is precisely what happened. I run 3 fans, 2 are for the case and hard drive. I wasn`t aware the cpu fan had locked up. I also had anything not crucial to power, speed, and overall efficiency turned off, which was also the alarm functions.

I have a 2000xp chip on a nicer Shuttle board now. Running very smooth...

glad to hear you got back up and running so quick!

I was moving a few things in and out of my box the other day, and in the middle of surfing the net my heat siren went off...wtf? turned out an errant wire from the power supply had lodged itself between one of the cpu fan fins and the fans inside wall...

so i shutdown, fixed it and all was well after that.

Saved by the bell, as they say...

Yeah my PC has an auto-shutdown feature if the cpu gets too hot.

I actually underclock the cpu when i record so i turn down the voltage and it runs very cool. I am actually able to run the entire pc fanless (well besides the psu but its quiet) while recording temperatures being fine (i dont tempt fate by leaving it without the fans on however). It also helps that my HDD is a SeaGate Barracuda which is very quiet.

I haven't had to yet but I also have the option of overclocking to 3200+ speeds while mixing and the fan sound doesnt matter.

If I ever get some more money I am going to place it into a smartDrive enclosure (should make it at least almost completely silent) and have that be the only drive in my Shuttle XPC system (ill use an external cd rom) and that will also help temperatures.
