Alright, as some in here may already know...I use a Roland VS-1680 w/1 effects board installed. My problem is that no matter how careful I am at the recording process, my final product comes out sounding like these. click here
It just seems that no matter how clean I think my "sound/signal" is when I'm recording, by the time I get to mixing the song down everything starts to sound blurry or muddy. And I try to compensate for this by EQing.(is this the same as adjusting the frequencies so they stand out?)
As you can tell by listening to some of these songs the instruments just dont stand out. Thats not to say that you cant hear them, but they just dont sound as clean and as professional as say some of Darthfaders recordings.
It seems to me that alot of the people around here are using preamps for their vocals and for just about everything else. Is that the thing Im missing?
If anyone can help. I'd appreciate it.

you don't need double posts to link to your stuff...but addressing your point. practice your recording, just like your axe. it's an art too...as most know here too. I think your equipment has the potential to achieve some pretty decent results, but you need a good playback system to hear what you are doing, experienced recording ears, good sounding instruments, ...etc, etc..

Sorry i wasnt trying do double up my posts.

I just thought that with the lack of response I got on the other post, that i'd be more consise in what I wanted people to comment on. I guess I didnt get my idea acrossed the first time.
But thanks for the advise...what you said in the other thread is what I was thinking all along... I just wanted to hear it from my peers.

I not familiar with the Roland. Are you recording the whole band live or are you overdubbing, by that I mean one track at a time?

I'm not hearing a stereo mix. All of the instr/vox are dead center -mono. I would start there, with a little separation.

Actually they are in mono. Thats my fault. somewhere along in the process of getting all the songs to cd I mistakingly mixed them to mono and lost the stereo. Dont ask how I lost them but inbetween sessions the stereo recordings disapeared, which is no excuse for the lack of professionalism, and I know Ill get bashed just for saying that. but Im glad you recognized that.

But trust me they didnt sound any better in stereo.
