Output Stereo Line-in?

I have a mono cable going from my preamp to my sound card's line-in. As expected it only outputs to left headphone. Is there any driver I can use to have it mix the sound into stereo? Otherwise I only hear vocals on one side which feels strange.
 
if you use a normal pc sound card. this is normal. when you record you have two options . to record through the left or right channel.because you are stereo lin in . now having said that as your recording a mono track in your track properties BEFORE YOU RECORD you should set the track for MONO
in your software.
i suspect your track is set for stereo, this you should change to mono.
then when you play back what you recorded you will now be able to Pan
the track anywhere you want. so you dont get it only out of one speaker.
it wouild really help to know what multitrack software you are using and sound card. then i can make more informed suggestions.
 
All you need to do is change to a stereo cable if the preamp is stereo. If your preamp truly only sends a mono signal then you can split the signal with a mono y cable and then plug it in to a stereo adaptor cable for your soundcard. This will at least give you two signals for the left and right channel though it wouldn't be stereo.

I'm using Cool Edit Pro. Yes, I can get it to playback in mono but I'm wondering if there's anyway for me to playback in realtime stereo?
