Output Routing for Mastering / v2 vs. v4

If you look at the signal flow chart for SONARs 2 & 4 (& I'm assuming it’s the same for 5)...for Tracks, the sequence is: Clip Automation > Trim > FX Insert > Track Volume...permitting any signal to be altered prior to track plug-in Input (in turn affording more control over how the plug-in reacts.)

On the Outputs (Virtual Mains)...there is no Trim control...only Output Volume, after the FX Insert (this is true for SONAR 2...v4's v mains have Input Gain.)

But in v2...this makes it difficult to, say for example; hit a mastering limiter harder or softer.

So...in SONAR 2...where the Virtual Mains are only routed directly to the hdwe. Outs...if I wanted to alter the collective gain of ALL my tracks prior to a mastering plug-in applied to the stereo bus (A)...I would have to enable an Auxiliary Send for all those tracks; & then adjust the Return volume of the Auxiliary Bus before sending it back to the stereo bus.

Is there an easier way ???

Question 2:

In general...in dealing with floating point DAW audio engines...is there any harm in running the tracks a little hot relative to the finished summation product ? In other words...if I have 20 semi-hot tracks; & the collective gain of those tracks pushes the stereo bus over 0dB...

...is it better to (for purposes of summation):

A) Pull each track's output back an equal portion...

...or B), just pull back the output of the stereo bus ?

Does it make any difference?
